Fretless guitars are uncommon, but there's an impressive list of players who actually use them - Steve Vai, Guthrie Govan, Pat Metheny, Ron Thal, John Frusciante, just to name a few...
We offer fretless necks as a regular option in the Halo Custom Shop.
Here are some of the basic benefits of fretless guitars:
- Tone - you get a rich, warm, smooth, and organic tone
- Pitch - you get the full range of notes a guitar can produce, not just 12 notes per octave
- Inspiration - you get to rediscover the guitar and create music in ways you never could have, or would have, ever before
We can make the fretboard completely blank, or install fret lines (maple inlays in the exact location where frets would be installed) as many players find it helpful.
Head over to the Halo Custom Shop to design your own fretless guitar!
Here's how to design your own fretless guitar:

I bought a fretless guitar neck from Amazon and put it on my Yamaha Pacifica. I studied the India Sarode for 5 decades so the transition wasn't that hard. Just remember the guitar becomes a melodic only instrument when the frets are removed. Keep a second guitar for normal playing.
